The ABCs of Rheumatology: What Do All These Words Mean?

How can this event help me?

Navigating a rheumatology diagnosis can feel like learning a whole new language. ESR, CRP, seronegative, seropositive—what do they all mean, and why do they matter? With medical appointments often packed with information, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar terms and test results.

Join Dr Armando Faigl in our upcoming Lifestyle Event for an informative session where we break down the most common words and phrases used in rheumatology. We’ll help you understand the language of your condition so you can feel more confident in your healthcare journey. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have been managing your condition for years, this session is designed to provide clarity and answer your questions.

Armando will be exploring the following key areas:

  • Terms related to diagnosis: Learn the meaning behind key terms like seronegative, seropositive, axial, and non-radiographic, and how they influence diagnosis and treatment choices. Understanding these classifications can help you discuss your condition more confidently with your healthcare team.
  • Terms related to tests: Get a clear explanation of common blood tests, including ESR, CRP, and ANA, and how they help assess inflammation and autoimmune activity. Knowing what these tests measure can make it easier to interpret your results over time.
  • Terms related to treatments: Understand the terminology used in treatment plans, from DMARDs and biologics to combination therapy and tapering medications. Learning these terms can help you make informed decisions about your care options.
  • Terms related to disease progression: Explore phrases like remission, flare, and progressive disease to better understand how conditions change over time. Recognising these terms can help you track your symptoms and communicate changes effectively.

This session will help make rheumatology language clearer and more approachable, giving you the confidence to navigate your healthcare with greater understanding. Join us on Wednesday, 30th April at 8:00 PM AEST for this live virtual event. As always, we welcome your questions and discussions to make this an engaging and supportive experience for everyone.
