Beyond Diet and Exercise: Understanding Weight Loss Medications

How can this event help me?

With new medications now available, weight loss treatments have evolved, offering additional options for those who struggle with weight management—especially when lifestyle changes alone haven’t been enough. These medications are becoming more widely used and better understood, yet questions remain about how they work, who they’re suitable for, and what to expect.

In this session, endocrinologist Dr Cellina Ching will explore the role of weight loss medications, their effectiveness, and how they can complement lifestyle changes to enhance long-term success in weight management.

Join Dr Cellina Ching for a thoughtful discussion where she’ll cover:

  • Overview of Weight Loss Medications:  Get a comprehensive overview of the weight loss medications available today, including Ozempic (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide), Contrave, and Duromine. Cellina will explain how these medications work, their potential benefits, and how they can support weight management—especially for individuals who haven’t been able to reach their goals with lifestyle changes alone.

  • How Medications Complement Diet and Exercise: Learn how weight loss medications can complement and support the efforts of diet and exercise. This segment will cover how medications can help accelerate weight loss and maintain results, improving adherence to long-term lifestyle changes.

  • Common Side Effects and Considerations: Understand the potential side effects of different weight loss medications, what to expect, and how they can be managed. Cellina will also highlight the importance of monitoring and adjusting treatment based on individual responses and needs.

  • Who might benefit from these medications: Understand who these medications are typically recommended for, including people living with obesity, insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or type 2 diabetes. Cellina will discuss how individual health profiles, risk factors, and previous weight loss attempts are taken into account when considering this approach.

  • Ongoing monitoring and support: Discover why regular follow-up, medical supervision, and a multidisciplinary support team—including dietitians, psychologists, and exercise physiologists—play a crucial role in managing side effects, adjusting treatment, and supporting healthy, sustainable habits for long-term success.

This session is ideal for anyone considering weight loss medications or seeking more information on how they can be part of a comprehensive weight management plan. Join us on Wednesday, July 23rd at 8:00 PM AEST for this informative live virtual event. As always, we welcome your questions and discussions to make this an engaging and supportive experience for everyone.
