BJC Health hosted a lunchtime visit by 2 Swedish professors, Lars Klareskog and Ingrid Lundberg. They’re currently on a speaking tour around Australia.

These distinguished rheumatologists work at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and are world experts in rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory myositis respectively.

It was lovely to learn a bit more about how Swedish Rheumatology services are oriented and very useful to hear a couple of concise talks covering important issues in rheumatology:

  • Why do we get rheumatoid arthritis? On genes, environment and immunity
  • The lung – a key organ in the pathogenesis of myositis

I was also proud to show off our new clinic at Parramatta. Our focus at BJC Health is connected care, and we’ve designed our workspace with the needs of our rheumatic patients clearly in mind.

It was gratifying to hear both Professors comment positively on our workspace, from the gym space to the consultation rooms to the waiting room layout, and then, our staff room. They very much liked the multidisciplinary team focus.

Apart from rheumatologists, the talks were appreciated by an audience of physiotherapists, pharmaceutical representatives, a dietitian and an ultrasonographer. Appropriately, a multidisciplinary team.

All in all, a very enjoyable visit.
