Usually at this time of year, we get inundated with programs, promising a new you for this year. Thankfully this year, there also is a plethora of people suggesting to avoid setting unrealistic goals for the start of the year. The Dietitians Association yesterday released what they are calling for fad diets to be out, with perfect portions in. As the release states, 54% of Australians are unhappy with their weight. That is more than half of us! I find this both sad, and a little scary. You can read the full release here

Whilst most new years resolutions are long forgotten by the time February rolls around, there is nothing wrong with setting some small, achievable goals to start the year.

If you do want to set some goals, I like to recommend the following strategies:

- Use the acronym S.M.A.R.T. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. If your goal has these attributes, you are more likely to be giving yourself a high five by the end of the month.

- Keep it small. Rome wasn’t built in a day. And in most instances, it takes a lot of effort to get to where you want to be, in any aspect of life. Lets say you want to be able to run 10km, but at present can’t manage more than 1km. Start with aiming for 1km, and build from there.

- Keep it kind. As mentioned in my previous post, being kind to yourself is above all, the most important thing.

 Happy new year everyone!
