BJC JAM - Great Conference Day!

Written by Monica Kubizniak | 07-Nov-2016 07:00:00

On Saturday the 29th of October, BJC JAM was run at UTS and it was a great day! Doctors, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists came together to listen to our BJC rheumatologists, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and myself talk about arthritis. We also had excellent invited specialists who spoke about gut, skin and eye health. We were engaged all day and thankfully there were smiles all round at the end of the day, with much learnt and collaboration from the entire group.

I spoke about the evidence of supplements in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and even though there is limited evidence for glucosamine, chondroitin, fish and krill oil – there is some moderate evidence for the use of green lipped mussel, curcumin, boswelia and ginger. If you would like some more information about these, I recommend you chat to your health care professional.

A very enjoyable part of my day was the opportunity to run a workshop for the GP’s regarding anti-inflammatory eating. I basically set up a supermarket on the table and answered thought provoking questions from the group. It is always satisfying when you receive the amount of interest that was shown on the day.

All of our participants received a copy of our cook book and I hope they all enjoy the recipes as much as I do!!
