Help needed: Australian-wide study on biologic use in pregnancy

Written by Dr Irwin Lim | 21-May-2016 00:57:23

My colleagues are currently conducting a study looking at outcomes of pregnancies in women with inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Psoriatic arthritis

In particular, this study is focussed on those women who were using biological disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (biologics) in Australia just before and/or during the pregnancy.

It’s a simple study and if you are interested or know someone who may be, you just have to contact the study organisers as per this flyer.

They’ll email you more information about the project as well as a questionnaire.

Many Australian women with rheumatic disease are of childbearing age, with a significant number of these women currently prescribed biologics.

Already there is emerging data to show us that biologic use in pregnancy is safe.

But we still need more information regarding how these medications are actually being used with pregnancy.

Active inflammatory disease can be bad for pregnancy outcomes, and the goal remains to have the disease activity as controlled as possible for the health of both mother and child.

Please do consider this. It is really important to try and collect this data. And share this post.
