I find it quite difficult to explain the sacroiliac joint to patients. A picture or a desktop model of the spine can be helpful. This animation is likely to be even better.

Sacroiliitis refers to inflammation of the sacroiliac joint.

Sacroiliitis typically occurs in a group of diseases called inflammatory spondylopathies or spondyloarthritis. This group includes diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis or arthritis related to inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

The animation was designed to be used in an app for the ipad & iphone called iAnkylosing Spondylitis.

Do you find this sort of animation helps you understand?
